Local Dives
There’s nothing quite like grabbing beers for a couple bucks in a dimly lit bar with sawdust on the floor. These are our favorite dives in the valley.
Whitefish, MT
Historic dive bar in downtown Whitefish since 1919. The bar is full of signs from all the businesses that have come and gone in the valley during the Northern’s 100+ year life. This is by far our favorite local spot to grab a beer and a burger.
The Northern has beer, grub, tvs, billiards, an outdoor seating area, and live music most weekends.
Despite it’s grungy nature, the Northern (like most places in the valley) is a family friendly establishment. You’re likely to see 3 or more generations grabbing lunch together on the weekends. At least until the evenings when it becomes 18+.
Kalispell, MT
The place to go if you’re looking for a saloon with sawdust on the floor. Moose’s has been a local favorite since 1957.
The beers are served in chilled glasses and will run you $2.50. But the real star here is the pizza. Moose’s serves up crunchy pies that don’t spare the cheese.
On any given day you’ll find the regulars sitting around the bar watching sports and talking about the happenings around the valley.
Like The Northern, Moose’s welcomes all and you’ll find folks of all ages getting out of the sun and enjoying a pizza together as a family.
Columbia Falls, MT
Less of a dive than Moose’s or The Northern, Gunsight Saloon has a warm woody atmosphere inside a historic building in downtown Columbia Falls.
In our opinion the best part of Gunsight is their outdoor seating area where you can enjoy live music and the beautiful mountain air.
